Teach the 60-minute lesson
Could a wall protect an empire? Students use photographs, maps, warning signals and supply evidence to explain what a wall could do and what else it needed.
Classroom sequence
Observe 0–5 min · Locate and compare 5–15 · Structure and signals 15–24 · Supplies and group decision 24–41 · Report, write and revise 41–55 · Exit check 55–60.
The group decision has five minutes for two choices, two evidence-based reasons and one remaining risk.
Prepare and print
Project the 20 slides. Each student uses the four-page Student Handout or Language Support replacement. Print one two-page group set per group.
For 30 students in eight groups: 136 printed faces. The quiz and homework are optional uses outside the core 60 minutes.
Modern photographs show surviving sites. The decision task represents a fictional Ming border post, late 1500s.
